Review: Too Faced | Summer 2014 Pardon My French Set

This is a very overdue review because I had received two of these Too Faced "Pardon My French Sets" back in April as birthday gifts. None the less, I still feel to put my two cents in on this set seeing that it is still available at Sephora, so some of you may still be contemplating on buying it or not.

As you can see, the Pardon My French set contains five items:

- 0.11 oz Shadow Insurance
- Bonjour Soleil 2014 Eye Shadow Collection
- 0.25 oz Lash Injection Extreme Volume Tubing Mascara
- 0.04 oz Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Perfect Black
- Exclusive makeup bag

The primary focus of this review will be on the Bonjour Soleil 2014 Eye Shadow Collection:

If you've been reading my blog for some time now, you would know that I am a HUGE fan of makeup palettes and sets! I am a hoarder for these types of things because I feel you get the most value out of your money for it. When I first saw the Too Faced "Pardon My French Set," release a week or so before my birthday, I knew I had to have it immediately!

Sadly, after my birthday celebrations ended and I had time to sit and go through/play with my gifts, for the first time EVER, I was not a happy camper with this set by Too Faced. I've always love Too Faced's makeup collections/sets... up til this one...

From the Sephora site:

"What it is:
A limited-edition set ideal for creating a classic summer eye.

What it does:

Available only for a limited time, this exclusive set inspired by the French Riviera contains all the eye products you need for a fresh summer look. Great for travel, it all zips into a striped St. Tropez-ready makeup bag."

Packaging:

I don't know exactly when but Too Faced changed their palette packaging to a slimmer tin package. I have the older Natural Eye palette which was a matte cardboard type material and it was a bit thicker than this one. I do like the newer packaging because it's more travel friendly and takes up a bit less space than the older one.

There's a small mirror included in the tin (I kept it hidden with the Too Faced Look Book for picture purposes).

The tin palette closes well but I would advise you to be careful and try not to drop it, it could possibly open and further damage could be done to your shadows or mirror.

Texture & Consistency:

There are four matte and five shimmery shadows.
  • Matte: Seashell, Sand Dollar, Mermaid, Toasted Coconut
  • Shimmer: Plumeria Cocoa Beach, Firefly, Chocolate Sun, Sunbeam
So far, what are your thoughts??? My thoughts were "OMG, this is a great summer collection! It's so freaking cute!" The cute set overall wasn't going to cut it for me, disappointment came in when I started swatching...

Application:

I don't know where to start with my disappointments! The color payoff sucks (horribly) in my opinion. The lighter colors barely showed up on my light skin, I applied the shadows a few times to get them to look decent for this swatch picture. You can see how chalky it is too with the darker colors.

Compared to their palettes before this one, I was expecting great quality and awesome payoff but seriously am still so upset at the results of me swatching this. It's seriously painful for me to even write this review because I wanted to love this set so much!

I couldn't justify keeping this set, the colors in this palette I already have and the quality of it is better in other palettes I  have. If the shadows were great, I would have kept the set (because I am a palette/makeup collection set hoarder lol).

Is it worth it?

Given the other great things that came in this set, the palette was what I based my decision on and to be honest, no I don't think it's worth the $49 (U.S.D. before tax). I returned both sets back to Sephora and never looked back on it.

I hate to write a disappointing review, but I feel it's my duty to put in my two cents on it. I haven't heard a lot of hype over this set since its release, so maybe others feel the same way too?

Let me know what you think about this set and if you have it, love it, or disliked and returned it like I did!
