Glow with OLEHENRIKSEN | Balance Collection Review*

'REJUVENATED.  VIBRANT.  YOUTHFUL.   Since 1975, skincare expert Ole Henriksen has been transforming complexions and indulging the senses by expertly blending the power of nature and science to reveal glowing, healthy beauty. Inspired by his Scandinavian upbringing, Ole brings his cheerful personality to his line of skincare that delights consumers with powerful performance ingredients and glowing results.'

A few weeks ago (almost a month now), I tweeted about starting the 10 Step Korean Skin Care Routine. Not too long after, Influenster kindly sent me OLEHENRIKSEN Balance products to try and so I incorporated these new gems into my skincare routine. I plan to write a separate post covering my take on the entire routine so stay tune!

OLEHENRIKSEN did a whole new brand relaunch with an updated minimalist design. Each product line is color-coded and clearly features each product benefits so you can easily identify the right product for your skin concern.

'Why shine when you can glow?'

The Balance Collection is green and it feels so zen to me! This collection addresses those like myself who deals with oily/combination skin. Having such skin concerns, I want products that will prevent me from looking like a greasy frying pan! OLEHENRIKSEN states that the Balance products
  • Controls oil
  • Mattifes
  • Refines pores
All three products we're going to get into below contains a special green fusion complex (a blend of green tea, eucalyptus, algae (kelp), and Irish moss extracts) and neem seed oil (oil pressed from the seed kernals of the need tree which is a tropical, evergreen tree in India).

FIND YOUR BALANCE™ OIL CONTROL CLEANSER ($25 USD - 5 OZ.)

I really love this Oil Control Cleanser! Along with green fusion complex and neem seed oil, this cleanser contains glycolic and lactic acids. It reduces excess oil and cleanses pores - without stripping skin and helps loosen and lift dead skin cells that can build up in pores.

The product is sort of a thick gel when you squeeze product from the tube, so you only need a little bit! It lathers up really nice while I'm massaging the cleanser onto my face and I can feel my face tingling (both lathering and the tingling reassures me that this cleanser is really working!) which makes me enjoy cleansing my face for a little bit longer than I usually would.

After I rinse my face with cool water, my complexion feels so fresh and clean! The Oil Control Cleanser really does cleanse well because when I go to the next step (toning), there's no traces of makeup or dirt on my cotton ball.

BALANCING FORCE™ OIL CONTROL TONER ($26 USD - 6.5 OZ.)

This toner absorbs excess oil without stripping skin and helps unclog and minimize the appearance of pores. Unlike the Oil Control Cleanser containing glycolic and lactic acids, the Oil Control Toner has salicylic acid and AHAs

I love the extra cleanliness my face feels when using this toner! Unlike other toners I've used in the past - this one does not dry out my face. I'll get a few pimples/bumps here and there and this toner helps soothe them and they would be gone the next day.

FYI, the Balance Collection features an invigorating eucalyptus-peppermint scent which I love but for those who are sensitive to smell may not care for it. I find the minty scent stronger in the cleanser and toner but subtle in the moisturizer which we will get into below.

COUNTER BALANCE™ OIL CONTROL HYDRATOR ($34 USD - 1.7 OZ)

The Oil Control Hydrator claims that it improves foundation wear for up to 8 hours. I've used this hydrator underneath my makeup and have no issues with makeup slipping or wearing off easily.

Containing rosehip fruit extract and AHAs, this Oil Control Hydrator is perfect for oily prone skin. It is hands down, my new favorite moisturizer! This gem is ultra-light, controls oil, and mattifies. Let me repeat the last part, MATTIFIES - y'all... I have not used a moisturizer that mattifies before. I never thought that a moisturizer could achieve a matte finish until I started using this (Dear Ole, you've changed my world!).

In my skin care routine, I use the OLEHENRIKSEN Balance Collection in the evening because these products contain glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and AHA's (alpha hydroxy acids). It's suggested that when using products containing acid ingredients, it's best to avoid sunlight because skin irritation can possibly occur and so I think it's best to let the products work its magic while you're sleeping. The Balance Collection can be use day and/or night but if your skin is sensitive like mine, I recommend using it at night.

Maybelline Eye Studio Spring 2017*

'It's all in the eyes. And the possibilities are endless. Demure daytime looks. Deep drama night moves. Subtle lines and definition, smokey vibes, custom brow looks, classic tones or a shot of color. Eyeshadow and eyeshadow primers, eyeliner, brows, and mascara collections designed to transform your look in the blink of an eye.'

1 | 2 | 3

For their Spring 2017 campaign, Maybelline launched two new products that rolled out in January. The Colossal Big Shot Mascara ($8.49 U.S.D) is a new one coat volumizing mascara where in a consumer panel survey, 8/10 saw root to tip volume instantly. The 24karat Nudes Palette ($11.99 U.S.D.) is a 12-pan neutral palette featuring shimmery gold, bronze, and copper shadows.

Colossal Big Shot Mascara

The wavy bristles of this mascara is said to maximize the delivery of the formula to lashes which I do agree and really like! It catches the tiniest lash hair without me having to go over it like how I usually would. I really like using this mascara for my bottom lashes!

24karat Nudes Palette

I've seen these mass brands launching shadow palettes and to be quite honest, they don't appeal to me. The 24karat Nudes Palette is said to have a silky texture but I think otherwise. I find the shadows to be dry and chalky - even with the use of a primer, you'd have to work with packing the shadows on for any color to really show.

Master Precise Liner

My favorite type of eye liner will always be a gel liner versus a pen liner. I find the Master Precise Liner applicator a bit scratchy which did not give me smooth strokes when applying the product to my eyelids. Because of the scratchy applicator, it was cumbersome to work with and when flicking the pen to create my wing, the product skipped a bit and so I ended up going back a few times.

My favorite Maybelline product out of the three is the Colossal Big Shot Express Mascara. This is definitely on the list of my drugstore makeup favorites! The price points of all these are affordable and won't break the bank - so if you're curious to get these items, you should definitely give them a try and see what is your favorite and works for you!

Personal Update

I can't believe that it is already February! It's been way long overdue since I've blogged and I want to start off in small steps to get back into the rhythm of blogging.

2016 ended perfectly for my family and I. We were able to welcome 2017 with our new baby! Baby E.J surprised us with her arrival on December 24th (yes, Christmas Eve!) instead of our expected due date (New Year's Day)!

All has been well! It's been one big roller coaster ride for quite some time. Even with Baby E.J here, the momentum hasn't stop. I've been juggling multiple plates at once and haven't had much time to do anything just for myself. I'm soaking up every second I have right now to just even get this post up!

>>Baby E.J is thriving at almost 6 weeks old! I'm cherishing every second of this precious time with my infant. I forgot how exhausting it can get taking care of a teeny human being! It's been 5 years since I've taken care of an infant, so I'm always searching things I have questions about online (and have my daughter's Pediatrician on speed dial if it's super urgent).

>>My little boy is going to be 5 years old in a few days! He absolutely loves and adores his baby sister - my heart aches with so much love for the two of them!

>>When the kids and I are a bit restless at home, we'll tag along with Daddy to his work.

Once things start to settle down a bit more, I plan to come back and focus more on my blog. Even though I've been MIA from blogging, that doesn't mean I don't think about it and my readers/followers! I've been slowly working on a few different things that I can't wait to share with you all!

Thank you! for all of your support - I really appreciate it!
